Let’s Talk about PPC in Digital Marketing

This is part of our “Talk Like a Marketer” Series. Marketers (like any industry) throw around acronyms. This time we’re talking about PPC—pay per click.

Welcome to my Talk Like a Marketer series. This week we’re covering PPC. What is it and what does it stand for and why do we need to know about it?

In digital marketing, PPC stands for Pay Per Click. Now, when I first heard that term, people said it fast, so I actually thought I was hearing Paper Clip. That didn’t make sense but that’s what I thought they were saying.

So Pay Per Click or PPC, which is a lot easier to say, what that is, is when you are advertising online, mostly in Google AdWords would be where this is most used, and you’ve got a Google AdWords account, you create some ads, and you will pay Google for each time somebody actually clicks on your ad.

In Google AdWords we’ll look at impressions. Impressions is how many people they showed your ad to, and then the number of clicks and how popular that ad was for the people who saw it.

When you pay Google, you’re not going to pay them for every time someone saw your ad, you’re going to pay for when people click on your ad and click through to your website.

So that is a short definition of PPC. Remember it is Pay Per Click. Not Paper Clip. Ugh! Anyway, if you liked this video, give it a thumbs up. Go ahead and subscribe to my channel. I post new videos each Wednesday with some other ones just kind of smattered in between.

Thanks so much for watching.
