The 5 Quotes I Live By
Are there quotes that you live by? A quote that has huge impact to yourself and to your life as a whole? Certainly, all of us do have. I’d be more than glad to share the mantras that guide the decisions I make in my life and business.
Here are the 5 quotes that guide my life:
What the mind of man can conceive and believe, the mind of man can achieve
-Aldous Huxley
I first came across this quote when I was in high school and it resonated with me. Life in 3 simple steps—come up with an idea, believe in it, and make it happen. Interestingly, I received a special gift with the words Dream it, Believe it, Achieve it. The sign hangs on my bedroom wall and is the first thing I see every day.
You are the sum total of the choices you make in your life.
Dr. Wayne Dyer
I was probably 19 when I first heard this one. I think we would all like to blame others for our problems in life, but this quote set me straight. It stopped me from blaming anyone else for pretty much anything and taking personal responsibility. Of course, random things and accidents happen in life, but we get to choose how we will respond. Being accountable for our own choices can be a hard pill to swallow, but it can also be freeing. It means we can also take credit for our victories.
You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.
Zig Ziglar
Zig Ziglar was one of the first motivational speakers ever and he taught generations about sales techniques. I was fortunate enough to see him speak in person once and he was an absolute inspiration. This quote is literally the foundation of how I run my business. Rather than asking how I can make more money, I look for opportunities to help more people who will hopefully become my customers.
For every complex question, there’s a simple answer. But, it’s wrong.
Unknown
I love this one. It makes me smile. But it also reminds me not to jump to a quick solution. I’ve found that the biggest mistakes I’ve made in business have been because I didn’t ask the right questions. In many cases, I didn’t even know what questions to ask. This has taught me to research enough so that I can have at least enough knowledge to ask the right questions before making a decision.
In life, there are multiple right answers. There are some that are clearly wrong, but there are multiple right answers.
Kate Dillon
This is a personal mantra. When I was younger, I felt that one of my character flaws was being indecisive. Being decisive is something I’ve worked on for years. I also had to break myself of thinking that there was one right answer and that everything else was wrong.
Especially now, having a business that is on the internet, there is so much flexibility. There are a thousand ways to write a product description, for instance. And it can be changed in an instant. While some software decisions are major, others can be tried out and deleted if they don’t work out.
There are dozens of quotes that I love, but these are the ones that have truly become ingrained in my life. They shape how I look at the world and my place within it.
